Slate is a natural stone and can vary greatly in color, even within the same basic color tone. When choosing your slate, we help you look at several samples to be sure you will be satisfied. Slate is a popular natural stone characterized by unique variations in color caused by the trace metals present during its formation. When the slate is split along natural layers, the metals are exposed to air which allows them to oxidize (rust). These natural color variations enhance the beautiful details of slate and makes each installation unique.

Slate is cut into squares so that it can be layed easily on a floor. During this cutting and honing process, companies can choose to tumble the slate. This tumbling 'ages' the slate making the edges rounder and softer.

As with any natural stone, you should care for your slate properly and seal it shortly after installtion to prevent staining.
